There is not much information on these mines and the operations were shortlived and low-key.
However, we do know that there are four disused mines in the hills behind Sanachan:
- The Rassal Copper Mine was in operation by the 1760's and the copper found in the mine was claimed to be the best in Britain. Small amounts of Malachite and Brochantite were also found.
- The Lower Sanachan Copper Mine was operational between 1903 and 1907, but nothing significant was ever found and the mine was abandoned.
- The Tornapress Iron mine closed in 1914. Six men worked in the mine which produced several hundred tonnes of iron ore.
- The Upper Sanachan Iron mine was operated by the same company who owned the Tornapress Mine and closed in 1914.
